Planning the trip

Phebe and Richard - in case you don't know us - currently live in the US Virgin Islands.  Richard retired almost a year ago, Phebe has one year to go.  As a teacher, she has that wonderful long summer for recuperation from a school year of dealing with adolescents and their raging hormones.  And together, they have a dedicated bank account for travel - funded predominantly by tax returns.

Life is good.

So summer of 2011.  Costa Rica, here we come.  Or return, rather.  Because we spent four or five weeks there, three years ago, and because the Dominican Republic has cholera issues right now.  So Costa Rica.  Why not?

The plan is to fly to Miami, then on to San Jose CR.  We have a fly and drive package, which includes one night in San Jose, drive a car to Arenal and stay two nights, drive to Monteverde and stay two nights, then drive back to San Jose and spend another night.  Return the car, stay at a B&B for several nights, then pick up a car and head out, no specific plan.  Because having a car in San Jose, unless at a hotel with a guarded lot, is problematic, to say the least.  (Translation - last time the car was broken into and the radio stolen and the car insurance didn't include replacing the effing radio.)  Because we plan to travel in a camper for our retirement, because we need to try the go-with-the-wind technique, because I need to learn to not plan.

We'll see how this goes.

And to all our friends and family, hi!  Welcome to the blog!  We'll post photos, reviews, adventures, and let you know how things are going.

Love & kisses, Phebe & Richard
